Sophie Hutchings

Sophie, herself, trained at Mad Hatters Theatre School until 2014 when she started to pursue a career in Professional Acting. She gained a lot of extremely valuable on-set experience as a Supporting Artiste and Stand-In in works across television and film, including Suffragette, Into theWoods, Mr Selfridge, Holby City and many more.

In 2018 Sophie graduated from The Poor School in London’s Kings Cross, an established Drama School for working Scholars and Actors. She was part of the last graduating year before it sadly closed but is very proud to have performed the last ever lines spoken on the stage of the school’s Workhouse Theatre. After graduating she was cast in professional plays, short and feature films. In 2019 she made her professional directorial debut in London and has since directed plays for both the Vaults and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals. She has continued to broaden her knowledge of the industry through training as part of the Globe Studios London, and, in the last few years, has been lucky enough to both act and direct on the stage of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.

She also is a keen writer and enjoys creating new work for the Mad Hatters students to perform. 

Sophie’s teaching experience spans 15 years, she strongly believes that you never stop learning and she enjoys the chance to encourage and inspire young performers as well as passing on new and exciting knowledge that is current to the industry RIGHT NOW!

Speeding up to 2026, Hollie and Sophie are excited to announce that Sophie will become Artistic Director and part Owner of Mad Hatters Theatre School! Sophie be heavily involved in the direction that the school will be going in.  Sophie is so VERY proud to be part of Mad Hatters Theatre School as an ex-student, as the current Junior & Senior Hatters Acting Tutor and as the Schools Artistic Director.

For Sophie, Mad Hatters will "always be home" and she is very excited to see what the future holds.
